We were not only the earliest inhabitants of the Marathi-speaking areas of India, but are also the largest scheduled caste group in Maharashtra. Traditionally agriculturists and labourers, we have now taken up other professions. Bhimrao Ambedkar, India's first law minister and one of the architects of the Indian constitution belongs to our caste.
